It’s very simple.  If I want to take advantage of free coffee, it’s my responsibility to carry a cup to and from the coffee.  I have to develop a new habit, to support my old habit…

We stayed on the upper Cape (Falmout) and we did find an organic farm and we did find – not a natural food store, but a close facsimile.   The restaurants we ate in served garden fresh salads, but have no idea of brown rice or whole grained bread.

I know I had committed to 55 MPH.  The traffic was so bad, I rarely got that fast, thought in certain places I speeded and felt guilty.  This is something I’ll be able to do.

The truth is that there is a growing consciousness and a sense of the shiting of our culture and my critique is of my own life as well as theirs.  We now have updated our packing list to include mugs so I don’t lapse and buy take out coffee any more.  We do remember to bring napkins into the rest stop restaurants.  There’ll be more.

And I say that with guilt because you have to drive to get there

How can I authentically say that I am greening the world.
In a few years, I will get a hybrid, perhaps only a personal scooter.  But what now?  And suddenly it hit me.  I will not drive over 55MPH.  Sounds easy, but…  Psychologically, driving in the right, being passed all the time; being fingered because of being slow… this will be hard.   I think speeding and passing are in my genes…like being first.

But driving 55 might set an example.  I’m going to do some research on how much gas it will save and what is the optimum for different brands — I can’t believe that 55 is best for all.  I’ll report after I return from Cape Cod.

Each time I lead I get it again and again.  Am I doing enough to green our world?  My commitment is that we presence a sustainable environment, spiritual fulfillment and social justice for all of us.  And I continually question myself:  Am I doing what I can?

And I realized that I’m not speaking out enough.  This is silly, because I speak out.  I have maybe 6 blogs and I write in all of them.  But this one is focused.  I will speak of what we can do; what I do, what I don’t do.  I’ll likely point to videos and websites – I don’t quite know.  I just know that  we are all there is.

If we are only you and me, then you and me are all there is.  We need to spread our arms, because we will get it done.  We’ll be dead before we  know if we succeeded or failed.  There will be evidence both ways – best of times/worst of times.   

So we can choose to do this because it gives us a life worth living.  And it’s not life and death for you and me.  It’s life and death for all of us.  And there will never be credit or blame, there will just be life worth living.  Because our job is to live in harmony with our planet and twith he rest of us.  No one else can do it.  We are the only species capable of doing it.

Life has changed.  Up until less than 100 years ago we all shared from the same pie and we could only get a big enough piece if they got a smaller piece.  But now we can all get our own pie and we have to figure out how to learn how to consume it well.
